glock 17 vs 22

Glock 17 Vs 22 - We often hear the word "revolutionary" attached to new products in the firearms world. However, the number of weapons that truly revolutionized the arms industry is relatively small.

When Glock introduced the G17, it truly changed the way we know handguns. The company soon followed with its smaller sibling, the Glock 19. There are some subtle (and not-so-subtle) differences between the two guns. In this post, we'll take a look at them and see how they stack up against each other.

Gaston Glock designed the Glock Model 17 in the early 80s as the new 9mm service pistol for the Austrian Army. It wasn't the first mass-produced pistol to use a polymer frame (the H&K VP70 won this honor), nor was it the first to use a striker-fired action pistol. The genius of the Glock 17 is how it combines these elements into a pistol that is simple, easy to maintain, lightweight and accurate.

The Model 19 was the third pistol produced by Glock. (The Model 18 was a version of the Model 17, designed for Austrian anti-terrorist forces, with the option of fully automatic fire). It takes all the functions and features of the Glock 17 and slims it down a bit, making it a more compact pistol for easy portability.

As we mentioned, Glock originally designed the Model 17l for the Austrian Army. Soldiers on the battlefield have to wear it like this. Its accuracy, robustness and light weight make it an attractive choice for the masses. But many shooters need a slightly smaller gun.

Over the years, Glock has updated the design of their pistols. They add textured grips and finger grooves for better grip, as well as interchangeable straps to better fit your hand. In the latest Gen 5 model, they also changed the internal mechanism slightly. For comparison, we looked at the 4th generation Model 17 and Model 19. Both have proven consistent and reliable for civilian, military and law enforcement applications.

In your hand, the Glock 17 is virtually indistinguishable from the Glock 19. The feel of the gun is basically the same, although the Type 19 has a slightly shorter grip.

Both guns are the same width (1.26 inches) and have the same distance from the rear of the slide to the ejection port. 4. Both the Gen 17 and Model 19 have interchangeable harnesses, although the harness for the Model 17 will not fit the Model 19 and vice versa. The Glock 19 in our photo is my personal 19. It has a rear harness with a small extension near the slide, which is different from the one used by the Model 17.

The height of the two guns is also different. The standard magazine for the Glock 17 holds 17 rounds and the standard magazine for the Glock 19 holds 15 rounds. The Model 17's frame is 5.47 inches taller, a half-inch higher than the Model 19's 5.04-inch frame. The Model 17 weighs 32.3 ounces when empty. The smaller Model 19 weighs 23.6 ounces.

We see the biggest difference between the barrel and slide length of the Glock 17 and Glock 19. The Gen 4 Model 17 has a slide length of 7.32 inches and a barrel length of 4.49 inches. The Glock 19 has a slide length of 6.85 inches and a barrel length of 4.02 inches.

Due to the different barrel and slide lengths, the recoil springs are not interchangeable between the two. However, all fire control components on the frame are interchangeable between the two weapons.

Glock G17 Vs Glock G22 Gen4 Size Comparison

We tested the accuracy of the Glock 17 and Glock 19 with three common brands of 9mm ammunition:

Both guns fired from the rest at a target 15 meters away. We tested average speed and average group size using a ProChrono digital chronograph set on the outside of each gun's muzzle. The temperature during the test was 85 degrees and the humidity was 85%.

The heavier Glock 17 seems to have more controllable recoil than the Glock 19. However, both guns achieved excellent scores in our accuracy tests. The long barrel of the Glock 17 allows more powder to burn inside the cartridge while still lining the barrel. This results in the Glock 17 being slightly faster than the Glock 19.

Since its introduction, the Glock 17 has found a place in the holsters of law enforcement officers around the world. It weighs just over two pounds and can flip what could be an army pistol.

However, the Glock 17 was never intended for concealed carry. The taller frame of the Model 17 means the stock sticks out more under concealed carrying suits. This makes hiding a challenge. However, in recent years, the popularity of the belt-type (AIWB) carry method has led to increased interest in using the Glock 17 as a concealed pistol. Longer and taller guns are comfortable to carry in that position.

With 15 rounds of 9mm in the magazine, a four-inch barrel, a decent trigger and compact size, the Glock 19 is one of the best concealed carry pistols. It's easy to conceal in a belt, has an incredible array of accessories to choose from, and has a reputation for reliability that you can hope for from most other pistols on the market.

However, the Glock 17's two extra rounds give it a slight firepower advantage over the Glock 19. The Glock 17's slightly longer slide (and thus longer aiming radius) also makes the Glock 17 a bit more accurate.

It all depends on what you're looking for. If you want a pistol to defend your home with, you'll be hard-pressed to find a better pistol than the Glock 17. It is a gun that also performs well in actual shooting competitions. For everyday concealed carry, practice and training, the Glock 19 is the standard by which all other compact 9mm pistols are judged. Either way, you're getting a reliable and accurate pistol that has been the market leader for decades.
