King Cobra 357
The King Cobra design is based on the previous Colt model, the venerable Trooper MK V, which has been improved with a heavier barrel, full barrel long barrel exhaust guard, and a thicker rib at the top of the barrel. . The King Cobra was introduced in 1986, discontinued in 1992, and returned to Colt's lineup in 1994. It was released a second time in 1998 and was not reintroduced until 2019 as a .357 mag, a three-inch version of the 2017 Colt Cobra.

Built on Colt's 1986-1992 mid-size "V" frame, the King Cobra features a high quality carbon steel finish with Colt's signature bright and polished deep royal blue finish. King Cobras are equipped with oversized walnut target-style or combat-style grips wrapped in black hard rubber fingers and large hammers.

Blued steel models had 4- and 6-inch barrels from 1986 until 1992, when the blued pistol was discontinued, and 2.5-inch power was offered with the blue from 1990-1992. From 1987 to 1992 it was featured in matte stainless 2.5 inch barrels, from 1988 the King Cobra was produced until 1992, from 1994 to 1998 a 2 inch barrel was also offered. The 1990-1992 hybrid stainless models had 4-, 6-, and 8-inch barrels. They returned to the product line between 1994-1998. Mirror Polished Stainless, 1988-1992 4 & 6-inch, 1990-1992 2.5-inch, 1989-1992 8-inch. The King Cobra is chambered in a high-powered .357 cartridge, but like all .357 revolvers, it fires .38 specialty cartridges.
Colt also produced a total of six King Cobras with three-inch barrels and fixed sights. These were made for the Montreal Police Department, who expressed interest in such a model for plainclothes police officers. The spinner was never accepted and six samples were returned to the distributor. One appeared in North Carolina in 2006, with letters written by Colt Archives, is listed on Gunbroker, and is now in the hands of a private collector. The fate of the other five remains unknown.

In 2019, the King Cobra was relaunched with a three-inch barrel. The gun was announced at the 2019 SHOT Show.
